Proverbs 18:14 (Amplified Bible -AMP): The strong spirit of a man sustains him in bodily pain or trouble, but a weak and broken spirit who can raise up or bear?
(Proverbs 18:14 AMP)
Just like your daily diet affects how healthy you are, your spirit needs a daily “spiritual diet” to keep strong. The winds of adversity, the oppression of the enemy, and the dangers of the troubled times in which we live can “crush” your spirit and make it weak. A weak and broken spirit cannot withstand these attacks. It will give up, and yield to despair and defeat. How can you be sure your spirit is strong and healthy?
Fill your heart and mind with the Word of God; feed (meditate) on the Word day and night and you will have great success (See Joshua 1:8). When the pressure was on, and Jesus was tempted by the devil in the wilderness, He thwarted Satan’s attacks by saying, “It is written…”
Another way to strengthen your spirit is by speaking in tongues. Jude, verse 20, says that we build ourselves up by praying in the Holy Spirit. Nehemiah 8:10 exhorts us not to sorrow because the joy of the Lord is our strength. So, no matter what may be weighing you down, make time this week to praise the Lord and watch the “joy of the Lord” take over and strengthen your spirit.
Lord, I thank You that when I feel weak and defeated, You empower me to be strong in spirit, soul and body as I submit myself to You. Help me to be faithful to read the Bible and pray in the Holy Spirit. I praise You now and yield to the joy of the Lord, which is my strength. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
